How to Login to Your Office 365 Account for the First Time (SSPR Setup)

After you create your account, you can login to your Office 365 Education account for the first time. The first time you login you will be prompted to set up your self-service password reset options in case you forget your password or lock yourself out of your account. Once you've done this setup, you will be able to login to Office 365 to check email or use any of the other Office 365 online apps.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. There are three ways to access your Office 365 account online:

    1. By typing https://portal.office.com into your browser.

    2. By going to https://www.missouristate.edu and clicking Log in from the top banner and then Office 365 and Email.Office 365 and Email link on MSU homepage

    3. By going to https://my.missouristate.edu and accessing the Home tab. In the Quick Links module, select Office 365 and Email

  2. Log in with your BearPass Login and password followed by the Missouri State domain you were assigned after creating your account:

    1. abc123@MissouriState.edu (faculty/staff with accounts prior to December 11, 2019)

    2. abc123@Live.MissouriState.edu (students with accounts prior to December 11, 2019)

    3. abc123@Login.MissouriState.edu (new faculty/staff/students after December 11, 2019)

  3. You will be prompted to set up account recovery options. Click Next.

  4. Set up your account recovery options. The Microsoft Authenticator app is the recommended option; you can download it from the app store on your mobile device. Click Next once you've downloaded the app. For more information about setting up and using this app, see How to Set Up the Microsoft Authenticator App.

    Please Note: If you do not want to use the Microsoft Authenticator app, you can choose I want to set up a different method and select the Phone or Email option instead.

  5. Once you've downloaded the Microsoft Authenticator app, click Next. Keep this webpage open.

  6. Within the Microsoft Authenticator app select Add Account Work or school account.

  7. The QR scanner will open, use it to capture the QR code that appears on the Keep your account secure page.

  8. Now that the app has been configured, the site will ask you to test it to verify that the app is connected to your account.

  9. It will send a push notification to your Microsoft Authenticator app; select Approve within the app to proceed.

  10. The Microsoft Authenticator app is configured and verified. Select Next to add your second verification option.

  11. A phone number is the second recommended option for verification, but you can use a non-Missouri State email address instead by selecting I want to set up a different method and choosing Email.

  12. To set up the phone option, enter a phone number where you can be reliably contacted. A cell phone number is recommended, but you can use an office phone number if desired. However, if you need to reset your password or unlock your account, you will need to be in your office to use the phone verification option. 

    1. Select text me to receive a 6-digit code via SMS to verify your phone number. Enter the code on the webpage to proceed.
    2. Select call me to receive an automated call to verify your phone number. You will be prompted to select the pound (#) key during the call and this will automatically verify your phone number.

  13. After verifying your phone number, select Next.

  14. You have successfully set up two verification options. Click Done to finish signing in to your Office 365 account.

  15. You should be directed to your Office 365 Education home page where you can select Outlook to open your email.
