    Term Selection Screen

  4. From here, you will be directed to the main Trial Schedule page. There are multiple filters available to assist you with your search.

These filters can be changed by using the “Change” button to the right of each filter title. These include the following:
  • Course Status-This allows you to determine whether to include courses for which there are no open seats. Upon first use, the initial default will be “Open and Full w/ Waitlist Open.” This means you would see classes with seats open or classes that are full but allow you to put yourself on a waitlist for the course. Courses that are full and have no waitlist would be excluded.
  • Parts of Term-This allows you to determine whether to include or exclude courses from outside the standard full-semester, which includes things like first block, second block, and intersession course among others. Upon first use, the initial default will be to include all parts of term.
  • Term-This displays the term currently selected. If the class schedule is published for multiple terms, you will have the ability to change the term to a different available term.
  • Campuses-This allows you to determine the campuses on which you are interested in taking courses and will filter course availability accordingly. Upon first use, this will default to “Springfield, MO,” “Online,” and “Off Campus” (which includes courses such as internships and student teaching where learning takes place in an off-campus location). There are a number of other selectable campuses that you may wish to select dependent on your program and location.
  • Modalities-Modalities refers to the method in which a course is offered, such as whether it is seated, online, or available in multiple modalities. Upon first use, all currently approved modalities are selected. For additional information about available modalities, you can click on a website link displayed in the information box at the top of the modalities selection page.

If you are looking for a course that you know is on the University’s class schedule but you cannot locate it within the Trial Schedule Builder, this typically means that one of the filters selected (or not selected) is affecting the results in a way that is causing the course to be excluded.
  1. To begin picking classes for your trial schedule, click Add Course. It is recommended that you review your advising notes and degree audit to familiarize yourself with courses that will benefit your degree progression.

  2. On the Add Course Page, you can search for classes by Subject, Course AttributeSection Attribute, or Instructor. The default Search tab is By Subject

  3. In the Add Course dialog box, use the Subject and Course drop-down menus to select the courses you'd like to arrange in your schedule, and the Add Course button to apply them.

  4. After selecting the courses you'd like to take, you can add some built in breaks to your days with the Add Break option. Breaks are a mechanism to allow your schedule to be built around things like work schedules, lunch breaks, commute times, and other activities for which you wish to designate blocked time in your schedule beyond the currently selected courses.
    Add Break button

  5. Back on the main screen, click Generate Schedules, and then the View Schedules button to view each Trial Schedule.

  6. Once you have clicked into a schedule to view, you can see additional details about that schedule. If you like a particular section of one of the courses, click the lock icon to the left of the course's CRN to lock in that section. If you do so, when you go back and regenerate schedules, it will reduce the amount to schedules returned by only including the ones that include the locked section.

The amount of information displayed can be extended by clicking the "i" icon to the left of the CRN, which will expand the details to show lecture/lab status, section attributes, section notes, and the course description.

Below the details, users will also see a grid view of what the schedule looks like. NOTE-Online courses with no designated meeting times do not display in the grid view.

    Navigation tips include:
  • Instead of hitting the "back" button to go out to view each potential schedule, you can use the left and right arrows on your keyboard to navigate between the different schedule options while in the details/grid view mode.
  • If you select a course with a special part of term (like a first or second block course,) the grid view will display a semester timeline where you can select a specific week and see a grid preview for the selected week.

  1. If you are not ready to select a final schedule yet, you can save your favorite schedules (you can favorite more than one) by clicking the heart icon at the top right of the page.

You will be prompted to name the schedule you wish to favorite. After doing so, click the OK button.

Once you have at least one schedule marked as a favorite, you will see a "Favorites" tab displayed in the Schedules section which contains only your favorite schedules.

  2. Once you have chosen the schedule that you want, click Send To Shopping Cart.
    Send to shopping cart button

Additional Considerations When Transferring a Trial Schedule Builder Schedule to Your Registration Cart

  • Trial Schedule Builder does not check prerequisite eligibility, so you should review that you meet any course prerequisites for the courses you intend to register in advance of your registration attempt.
  • Trial Schedule Builder does not check for permission being required for a designated sections.
  • You will want to pay attention to sections notes that may provide additional information related to section specific restrictions
  • You must officially register for classes through Banner. Selecting a schedule in Trial Schedule Builder alone does not register you in classes.

For additional assistance using the Trial Schedule Builder, you are encouraged to reach out to your academic advisor or the Office of the Registrar in-person or by email at Registrar@missouristate.edu.
