How to Change Your Missouri State Account Password

Your Missouri State Account Password is used to log in to many Missouri State University systems, including your email account, campus computers, the My Missouri State portal, and Blackboard. This guide is to help you change your Missouri State Account Password should you forget your password or if your account should become locked. University Missouri State Account account passwords do not periodically expire unless an account has a security risk.

Step-by-Step Guide

Changing your Missouri State Account Password Using your Current Password

If you know your current password and it is not expired and your account is not locked, or you have been issued a temporary password, you can change your password using these steps. If you do not know your current password or your account is locked, you will need to use your Account Security Options.

  1. Navigate to https://missouristate.edu/Account and select Change Your Password.
  2. Enter your Missouri State Account (not your email address) and click Next.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  3. Enter your Missouri State Account password. This is the same password you use to log in to My Missouri State, Blackboard, and campus computers.
  4. Enter your second authentication method to sign in.
  5. On the Change Password page, enter your current password in the Old password field.
  6. Create a new password and enter it in the Create new password and Confirm new password fields. Passwords are required to be at least 12 characters in length and are case-sensitive.

Changing your Missouri State Account Password Using Self-Service Password Reset

Please Note: You can reset your password and unlock your account by using your account Security Information as shown below.
  1. Navigate to https://missouristate.edu/Account and select Unlock Your Account.

  2. Enter your Missouri State Account under User ID and enter the security characters, then click Next.

  3. If you have forgotten your password, select the I forgot my password option and click Next.

  4. Choose the first method for how you would like to verify your identity. The options you see will be based on the verification methods you set up on your account, so you will be able to choose from approving a notification in the Microsoft Authenticator app, entering a code from the Authenticator app, a call/text to your mobile phone, or an email sent to your personal email address.
    1. Approve a notification on my authenticator app: Click Send Notification to receive a push notification on your mobile device.

      1. Select Approve on the notification that was sent to your authenticator app.

    2. Enter a code from my authenticator app: open the Microsoft Authenticator app or the 3rd-party authenticator app that you use.

      1. On the webpage, enter the code that appears below your username in the app, and then click Next.

    3. Email my alternate email: Confirm that you recognize the address listed for you and click the Email button to send a verification code to that address.

      1. Enter the code that was sent to your email and click Next.

    4. Text my mobile phone: Enter the phone number associated with your account and click the Text button to send a verification code to that number.

    5. Call my mobile phone: Enter the phone number associated with your account and click the Call button to receive an automated call to that number.

      1. Answer the phone call and press the pound (#) key when prompted.

  6. Choose the second method for how you would like to verify your identity using the methods above.

  7. Once you have verified your identity successfully, enter and confirm your new password then click Finish

 Unlocking your Missouri State Account Using Self-Service Password Reset

Please Note: If you receive the Microsoft "Sign-in is blocked" error (below), then you have made too many invalide login attempts and yoru account has been temporarily locked. The lockout time is generally 1 minute (more if you keep making invalid attempts).

Please confirm you are logging in with your Missouri State Account, and not your Email address. You can unlock your account by using your account Security Information using the following steps.
  1. Navigate to missouristate.edu/Account and select Unlock Your Account. 
  2. Enter your Office 365 username under User ID and enter the security characters, then click Next.​​​​​

  4. Choose the first method for how you would like to verify your identity.
