Microsoft 365 offers both browser-based Web Apps and desktop versions of familiar productivity applications, such as Word, Excel, OneDrive, Teams, SharePoint, Outlook and more.

Web Apps allow users to view and edit Microsoft 365 documents on any device via a web browser.
Desktop Apps allow for offline and more robust document creating and editing. You can download Microsoft 365 Desktop Applications on up to 5 devices.

Please Note: The process that installs the new Microsoft 365 also uninstalls all older Microsoft products. As you might expect, the older Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the rest of the Microsoft suite are uninstalled to make room for the new applications. You won’t be able to reinstall them.

From the Missouri State University website, click on Log In, then select Microsoft 365 and Email.
On the main page of your portal, select App Launcher(the "waffle" icon) from the upper left corner.
Then select More apps from the drop-down menu.
In the top right corner, look for the button that says Install Apps. Select Microsoft 365 apps, then Install Microsoft. The system will recognize your operating system and the correct download will begin automatically.
After the install has downloaded, click on the install file to run the application. This process will vary depending on your operating system.
Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the install (this usually takes several minutes).
When the install is finished, you should see a message indicating the installation was successful.

OneDrive is the Microsoft cloud service that connects you to all your files. It lets you store and protect your files, share them with others, and get to them from anywhere on all your devices.

Should you use OneDrive?

If you’re working on a file by yourself, save it to OneDrive. Your OneDrive files are private unless you share them with others, which is particularly useful if you haven’t created a team yet.
If you’re already working as a team, you should save your files where your team works - Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, etc.

SharePoint

SharePoint Online is a cloud-based service that helps you share and collaborate with colleagues, partners, and customers. Here at Missouri State, SharePoint Online is integrated with our Microsoft 365 Education subscription. Microsoft Teams utilize SharePoint Online without the need for users to manage an actual SharePoint site. The SharePoint app simply serves as an access point for Microsoft Teams features. But, if you or your department or team is interested in creating and managing a full SharePoint site (beyond what Microsoft Teams can offer), you can request a SharePoint site be set up or request your Microsoft Teams be transferred to a full SharePoint site.

Teams

Microsoft Teams is a collaborative workspace, which allows you to share files, assign tasks, schedule meetings, and communicate seamlessly. This Microsoft 365 application can be accessed on the web, from the desktop, or on mobile devices.

When you create a Team, you can invite others to begin collaborating and planning for upcoming projects, events or to create a centralized location for communicating with colleagues.
