DNS Changes

Full-time University employees may request DNS changes such as aliases and address records.

Overview

DNS (Domain Name System) assigns names to IP addresses to make navigating the Internet and local networks easier and more reliable.  All devices on the network have a unique address used to identify it to other devices.  This IP address consists of 4 numbers between 0 and 255 and is hard to remember.  Also the IP address can change so DNS assigns a name to the IP that is more meaningful, easier to remember and can remain constant when changes are made behind the scenes.

Eligibility

DNS change requests are available for full-time faculty and staff.
