Brightspace Bulk Add Users

With Brightspace, we have a new tool to manage enrollment in Communities. The bulk add users tool allows you to copy and paste in a list of M-Numbers (up to 1000 at a time) to submit to a Brightspace community. This tool is exclusively for communities. Please note: you will not be able to add users to a community the same day that you create it. You will need to wait until records are synced back overnight and you will see it available to add users the following day. 

To Add Users to a Community:

  1. Access the Bulk Add Users Community tool from the Manage Courses section of the Brightspace navigation.

  1. Paste or type in the M-Numbers of the users you wish to add to the community in the textbox. These can be in any format, comma separated, vertical list, etc. When you have entered all the M-Numbers, click Check Students.

  1. You will be prompted with a list of users for whom records were found successfully, as well as a list of any M-Numbers that were unsuccessful. You may wish to note any unsuccessful M-Numbers to review for accuracy. Please note, users must exist in Brightspace before they can be added through this tool, so it is possible that a student or faculty member may not yet have an account if this tool cannot find them.

  1. Choose the Community from the drop-down list that you want to add your users to.
  2. Choose the role you want the users you are adding to have (all users added at one time need to be added in the same role).
    • Currently there are only options for participant or enrollment manager. Participants can interact with community materials but cannot make changes to content in the community. Enrollment managers can change the community content and can also add other users using the bulk enrollment tool. 
  3. Click Add Users to Community and confirm your action to finalize the submission. You will receive a confirmation that the users were processed and they will have immediate access in Brightspace.
