Image Alternative Text and Why It’s Important

Alternative text (or alt text) is written copy that appears in place of an image when the image fails to load on the visitor’s screen. Alt text also works with screen readers. It describes images to those site visitors who are not able to see them.

Writing and testing alt text

When writing alt text, it is best practice to provide a short, concise phrase that clearly describes the content of the image.

If you wish to test your page for accessibility, you may use a browser extension such as Google Chrome Screen Reader and listen to how the page is read.
