Computer Requirements for Students in the Reynolds College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities

Computer Requirements

The Judith Enyeart Reynolds College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities houses multiple academic programs that are computer processing, memory, and graphic intensive. These programs include course activities in computer animation, graphic design and illustration, and audio/video production, to name a few. The following hardware and software recommendations are a good starting point when considering a computer purchase.

Recommended Windows PC Minimum Specifications

Processor: Intel or AMD quad-core with a base clock speed of 2.4GHz or greater

Memory (RAM): 16 GB minimum

Graphics: Separate/discrete NVIDIA graphics card with at least 4 GB of video ram. (Adobe software performs better with a NVIDIA card.)

Display resolution: 1920 x 1080. AdobeRGB or DCI-P3 color space coverage preferred.

Operating system: Windows 11 Pro

Recommended Apple Mac Minimum Specifications

Processor: Apple M2 or newer.

Memory (RAM): 16 GB minimum

Operating system: macOS 13 (“Ventura”) or latest macOS 14 ("Sonoma")

Internet Service

High-speed broadband Internet service is required for large media file distribution and playback.

Accessories

Microphone, web cam, and external USB 3.1 or Thunderbolt 3 storage drive with a plan for backup to a cloud service.

NOTE: While you may wish to use a Chromebook, iPad, or other tablet, these devices should be considered supplemental and are not sufficient to complete all necessary course work.
