IMPORTANT:

  • These are intended to be current minimum specifications for your computer to be successful in classes. You may wish to exceed these recommendations. If you have regular access to the open-access computer labs on campus, such computers already meet or exceed the suggested specifications.
  • Devices meeting only minimum specifications may need to be replaced during your tenure at Missouri State.
  • Your department may have additional program-specific requirements.
  • Chromebooks, iPads, or other tablet devices should be considered supplemental and are not sufficient to complete all necessary course work.
  • These requirements are current as of 05/01/2026.

Latest Windows/macOS operating system (Windows 11, macOS 26 Tahoe)
Configure to automatically install the latest security updates

PROCESSOR

Modern processor (i5, AMD, Apple Silicon) or greater

MEMORY

  • (Good)    8GB RAM; 256GB SSD
  • (Better) 16GB RAM or greater; 512GB SSD or greater

WEB BROWSERS

Configure to automatically install the latest security updates

PRODUCTIVITY

Microsoft Office 365 -  Free for enrolled Missouri State students

PERMISSIONS

Sufficient permissions on your device to install and modify software programs

INTERNET SERVICE

Access to broadband internet

ACCESSORIES

  • Webcam, microphone, and audio output
  • A headset is highly encouraged
  • USB-C (with DP-Alt mode) or Thunderbolt 3/4 is highly encouraged
CELL PHONE &
MICROSOFT
AUTHENTICATOR APP

Logging in to Missouri State resources like email and Brightspace
requires an authenticator app, a text message, or a phone call,
so students will need access to a cell phone.

We recommend using the Microsoft Authenticator app on an
iPhone or Android smartphone.
