Missouri State University utilizes the Blackboard Learn learning management system along with various online resources for a robust learning experience. In order to be successful in your courses, we suggest the following computer specifications. If you have regular access to the open-access computer labs on campus, such computers already meet or exceed the suggested specifications.
These are intended to be current specifications for your computer to be successful in classes. If you are purchasing a computer, you may wish to exceed these requirements. In addition, departments may have additional program-specific requirements.
Hardware & Software Requirements
Recommended Minimum Specifications and Configuration
Processor: Dual-core 2 GHz or greater
Memory (RAM): 8 GB
Operating System: Windows 10 (64-bit); macOS 10.15 ("Catalina")
Internet Service: Students are required to have regular access to a computer with broadband access.
Accessories: A webcam and microphone are required for online courses. A headset is highly encouraged.
Permissions: You must be able to install and modify software programs when working from a non-University owned computer.
Web Browsers:
Check your current browser support for Blackboard.
Productivity: Microsoft Office 365 is free for enrolled Missouri State students.
NOTE: While you may wish to use a Chromebook, iPad, or other tablet, these devices should be considered supplemental and are not sufficient to complete all necessary course work.
