How to Use Private Chat in Blackboard Collaborate

Moderators must give participants permission to chat privately during a Collaborate session.

1. Log-in to Blackboard.
2. Access Blackboard Collaborate Ultra from Course Tools.
3. Click on the session you wish to join from the Blackboard Collaborate Ultra platform.
4. From the Collaborate Session open the Collaborate Panel by clicking on the purple icon in the bottom right corner.
5. Click on the My Settings tab and give participants permission to Post Chat messages under Session Settings.
   
    
6. Once participants have permission, they can begin chatting privately. Click the Chat icon from the Collaborate Panel.
   
    
7. By default you see Chat with Everyone. Click in the search box at the top Find someone to chat with.
   
    
8. Click on their name and Say something. Moderators have the option to monitor private chats.
   

Please Note:
If moderators are monitoring private chats, you will see a notification at the top that the chat is being supervised.

How to Chat Privately from the Attendees List

1. Click on the Attendees icon located in the Collaborate Panel.
2. Click on the Attendees Control panel and select Send a chat message.
   
    
3. Type your message in the Say something text box.
   
    
4. Click on the Chat icon to access your active chat streams.
   
    

How to Supervise Private Chats

1. Edit the session settings and check the box next to Moderators supervise all private chats. 
   
    
2. Click Save.
3. Return to the Blackboard Collaborate Ultra platform and Join the session.
4. Open the Collaborate Panel and click the Chat bubble. This will give you access to all active chat streams.
5. Moderators will see a list of all of the Chat Channels. Here they can supervise/view and participate in private chats between attendees.
