How to Show/Hide Course Menu Links

Once you’ve created the links for the items you want in your course menu, you might want to change the availability setting for the link. You choose whether or not a course menu link is visible to students. As the instructor, you will always be able to see the links you have created.

If a link has a gray box and a diagonal line next to it, that means the link is not currently visible to students. Empty gray square indicates the page is blank.

A plain gray box indicates that the link contains no content. Gray square with a line through it indicates the link is not visible to students.

Step-by-Step Guide

How to Show/Hide Course Menu Links

  1. Hover over the course menu link that you want to edit.
  2. Select the drop-down arrow next to the course link.
    Click the down arrow.

  3. Choose Show Link to make the link visible to students.
Select Show Link to make it visible.

  4. Alternatively, if you are trying to make a link unavailable to students, select Hide Link.
Select Hide Link from the menu.

Please Note:  Remember to check for the gray box with the diagonal line before instructing students to visit a link on your course menu. See Troubleshooting Students Unable to See Items in Your Course for more information.
