If you’re experiencing issues using the Microsoft Edge browser with a custom web page, including ATLAS, we strongly suggest that you use another browser.
More information can be found below.
Explanation
Edge is the default browser on Microsoft devices. Because Edge is integrated with other Microsoft services, it causes conflicts with the authentication for MSU custom web pages (see below), including ATLAS.
The end result is that Edge claims that it is authenticated properly and passes this back the the custom web pages. However, as the authentication is different for the custom pages, it causes an error.
Custom Web Pages
Missouri State University develops custom web applications for many different purposes. All custom web applications can be identified by the Designed by Computer Services logo:

Further, two development systems—Grails and Django—are used. We’re slowly transitioning our Grails apps over to Django. The two systems are similar on the surface but can be easily distinguished by their URLs:

Solution Options
You may choose to use another browser or you can adjust your settings for Microsoft Edge to disconnect that automatic authentication. Please note, updates may overwrite your settings change at a future date.
Solution: Choose Another Browser
To avoid Microsoft Edge issues altogether, simply use another browser. Our custom web pages are designed to work well with Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Brave, Opera, and probably any others that do not integrate with Microsoft in this way.
Note that when you open another browser, it often prompts you to use it as your default. If you choose to do so, it affects your entire system and causes your new default browser to open whenever you click a link. Usually, this is okay and it will prevent the problems with our custom web applications in the future.
Solution: Adjust Microsoft Edge Settings
If you want to use Edge, and you are experiencing this problem using ATLAS or other custom web applications, you must break the connection between Microsoft authentication and Edge authentication.
- Access your account on Edge by clicking the icon with your photo.

- Click the gear button on the following page.

- Click the Sign Out button.

- Refresh your browser and you should be prompted to authenticate again. Once you have authenticated again, you can sync your account in Edge by clicking the now-blank icon where your photo used to be, then clicking the blue Sign in to sync data button.

If you choose to stay signed out of Edge, you shouldn’t have to do this fix every time. However, the link may establish again after a given time or update.
In some cases, Edge seems to work without a problem whether or not you are already authenticated with Microsoft.
