Activating your Brightspace Course for Students

Brightspace courses are created and set to inactive to allow faculty to build content prior to making courses available to students. When you are ready to make your course available to students, you can make your course active.

  1. To make your course available, navigate to your course, then select Course Admin from your navigation bar.

Please Note: It may take 5-10 minutes for the inactive indicator to update on your Brightspace course card on the home page, but if the box is checked the course is active and the indicator will catch up shortly.

At the close of the semester, you may want to return your course to inactive in order to prevent student access. Closed classes are merely ended, but students can still access them. You'll want to return to your settings and un-check the box to make your course inactive.
