Students living in Residence Halls are able to connect Smart TVs, Rokus, Gaming Systems, and a variety of other devices to the MSU HomeDevice Wi-Fi network for Internet access. This guide shows how to find the MAC (Media Access Control) address for common types of devices to register it on the MSU HomeDevice network.
Please Note: Due to the large number of Internet connected devices, ResNet is unable to provide a list of how to find the MAC address for every device. Finding the MAC Address on TV Streaming Devices
Roku / Roku TVs
- Go to the Roku Home screen
- Select Settings and press OK
- Select System or Network and press OK
- Select About and press OK
- The wireless MAC address is listed next to Wireless MAC address
Fire TV Stick and Amazon Fire TVs
- Go to the Fire Stick Main Menu
- Select Settings and press OK
- Select System and press OK
- Select About and press OK
- Scroll down to Network
- The wireless MAC address is located under the MAC Address (Wi-Fi) heading
Apple TV
- Go to the Apple TV Main Menu
- Select Settings and press OK
- Select select About
- The MAC address is listed as either Wireless ID or Ethernet ID
Finding the MAC Address on Common Gaming Systems
PlayStation 4
- From the main menu screen (Cross Media Bar), arrow up from the Application list into the XMB menus.
- Scroll right to the toolbox-looking icon labeled Settings and open it.
- Move down the list until you find Network. Open it.
- Move down all the list to find View Connection Status. Open it.
- Halfway down the listed information, find the two different MAC Addresses for your device, one for LAN Cable and the other for Wi-Fi.
PlayStation 5
- Navigate to the Settings icon located in the upper right hand corner
- Select System
- Select Console Information
- The wireless MAC address is listed next to MAC Address (Wi-Fi)
Xbox One
- Press and release the Xbox Button
- Navigate to the System
- Select Settings
- Select Network
- Select Network Settings
- Select Advanced Settings
- The wireless MAC address is listed next to Wired or Wireless MAC
Nintendo Switch
- Select System Settings from the Home Screen
- Scroll down and select Internet
- The wireless MAC address is listed next to System MAC Address
Finding the MAC Address on Smart Home Devices
Amazon Echo
- On the Amazon Alexa app, click on Devices
- Find your Amazon Echo and click on your Echo product
- Click the Settings icon in the top left
- Scroll down to About
- The wireless MAC address will be listed under MAC Address
