Employees
Adjunct Faculty
- Currently called Per Course employees
- Paid hourly faculty
- Exempt employees whose account licenses are paid for by their Department.
- These individuals are requested via the Adjunct Faculty BearPAF system or a PAF, receive a background check and have an employee record in Banner created by HR Records
Non-employee groups
Affiliate Colleague
- Non-paid individuals who are working for MSU and need an employee record in Banner for training and to be included in systems like ADP and the Org Chart.
- These individuals could be faculty or staff.
- These individuals are requested via an Affiliate and Dependent Request form, receive a background check and have an employee record in Banner created by HR Records.
- There are VERY FEW of these.
- These individuals are given a full employee Microsoft account license (A5) which comes from our core account pool.
Affiliate Faculty
- Previously called Adjunct Faculty
- Faculty working for MSU but not paid by MSU
- These individuals are requested via an Affiliate and Dependent Request form, receive a background check, are set up by HR Records but do NOT have an employee record in Banner.They do have a teaching record in Banner and have access to BrightSpace.
- Examples = Military Science, China, etc.
- These individuals are given a limited employee Microsoft account license (A1) which comes from our core account pool.This can be upgraded to a full account license (A5) if the requesting department pays for the difference yearly.
University Affiliate
- Previously called University Associates
- Non-faculty individuals working for MSU but not paid by MSU.
- These individuals are requested via an Affiliate and Dependent Request form, receive a background check and are set up by HR Records.
- These individuals do NOT have an employee record or a teaching record in Banner.
- Examples = research or labs assistants that don't need teaching records and won't be entering grades, auditors, consultants, one-time seminar presenters, etc.
- This group includes volunteers if they need an email account.
- These individuals are given a guest Microsoft account license (A5) which is paid for by the requesting department.
- These accounts and licenses must be renewed yearly.
Volunteers (who need a background check)
- These individuals are requested through the HR Employment team.They don’t need an email account, but they need an M# so their background check can be saved in Banner
- These individuals are currently exclusively in Athletics.
- Please note if a volunteer doesn’t need a background check or an email account then they can be handled by the Department without HR.
- These individuals do not have a Microsoft account.
Dependent
- Previously called Spouse
- In some situations, spouses, domestic partners and even children of MSU employees qualify for a BearPass card, dining plans, door access, surviving benefits, COBRA, etc.
- These individuals are requested through HR Records and they create the individual’s M#.
- These individuals do not have a Microsoft account.
Dual Credit Faculty
- These individuals are high school teachers teaching dual credit courses in conjunction with MSU but not paid by MSU.
- These individuals have access to some benefits and facilities.
- These individuals are requested through and entered by the Dual Credit office.
- These individuals are given a limited affiliate Microsoft account license (A1) which comes from our core account pool.
Greenwood Student
- These individuals are attending or connected to Greenwood but have never enrolled in an MSU/Dual Credit class.Once they enroll in an MSU/Dual Credit class, they are identified as a student.
- These individuals are requested through and entered by Greenwood staff.
- These individuals are given a limited student Microsoft account license (A5) which comes from our core account pool.
Child Development Center (CDC) Parent
- These individuals need a BearPass card and access to university facilities.
- These individuals are requested through and entered by CDC staff.
- These individuals do not have a Microsoft account.
Community Partner
- These individuals are connected to the eFactory and/or JVIC.
- These individuals have access to certain campus buildings and may have a Microsoft license but only for electronic card access.
- These individuals are requested through and entered by the BearPass Card office.
- These individuals are given a guest Microsoft account license (A5) which is paid for by the requesting department.
- These accounts and licenses must be renewed yearly.
