Communication and Notifications in Brightspace

You can communicate through Brightspace directly and change the way that you receive notifications. 

By default you will only receive certain types of notifications in the form of emails. The default notifications are set up to be beneficial for most users. However, if you have different preferences, you are able to change what types of notifications you receive as shown in the Changing Email Notifications section of this article.

If you are interested in receiving notifications on your phone, you will need to download the Pulse app, as shown in the Using the Pulse App section of this article.

Sending an Email through Brightspace

You can send an email with the Brightspace Email Tool. To send an email:

1. Click the Message Alerts button at the top right of the Brightspace homepage. 
2. Click the Email button from the drop down.

3. Type the email of your intended recipient in the first section and the subject in the Subject section. 
4. Type out your email within the Body section. 

5. Upload any necessary files in the Attachments section. 

6. Click Send when you are finished. 

Changing Email Notifications

To change email notification settings:

1. Click on the student profile in the top right corner of Brightspace.
2. Click Notifications from the drop-down menu.

3. Alter any notification settings you wish to change by checking the box under Instant Notifications.

Using the Pulse App

If you want to receive push notifications from your Brightspace courses then you will need to download the Brightspace Pulse App.

Changing Pulse App Notification Settings

1. The Pulse app will prompt you to Find your school or institution. Type in “Missouri State University” and select the correct option from the search results.

2. Log in to Brightspace using your Missouri State Account.

3. After logging in, your courses should be accessible through the app. To change notification settings, click the University logo in the top left of the app.

4. Click Settings.

5. Click Push Notifications.

6. Enable which options you would like to receive notifications for.

Viewing Notifications in the Pulse App

To view notifications, tap the Notifications tab on the bottom right of the Pulse App homepage.
