Body
Each Residence Hall front desk has a black and white printer for residence hall residents to use. Students can connect to these printers from their residence hall computer labs or from their personal computers. This guide will show how to connect to the Residence Life print server and connect to the desired printer on your personal Mac computer.
Step-by-Step Guide
- On your Mac, go to System Preferences > Printers and Scanners. Newer models may say System Settings instead of System Preferences.
- Click + to add a new printer.
- In the new pop-up window, right click on the empty space in the toolbar and click Customize Toolbar.
- Drag Advanced onto the toolbar and click Done.
- While in Advanced options, for the Type, select Windows printer via spoolss.
- For the URL, type smb://resprint/{residencehall}-Mac$ (eg., smb://resprint/Hutchens-Mac$).
- See below for a list of residence hall printer URLS.
- For Name, enter a name that is easy to recognize. We recommend your building name.
- For Use, click on Generic PostScript Printer driver.
- Click Add.
- In the pop-up box, click on Duplex Printing Unit so you can print on both sides and click OK.
- You should now be able to print to your building's front desk. If you get a pop-up asking for your credentials, please type in your Missouri State Account ID (eg., resnet123) and your MSU password.
