You are able to manage Guest access to your course and its content.
When Guest access is enabled, Guests can see as much or as little of your course as you allow. The Course Menu links, Content Areas, and attached files need to be made available for Guest access by taking the following steps.
Please Note: Guests can only have access to the course menu and content areas; they cannot see or interact with course tools like the Discussion Board or Journals.
Step-by-Step Guide
Please Note: Guest access to courses is enabled by default and users can
find courses using the Course Catalog in Blackboard. If you want to restrict Guest access to your course, follow Step 1 below and select "No" on number 4.
Before a user with a Guest role in your course can see any part of the course, you need to Allow Guest Access.
- Locate the Control Panel at the bottom of the Course Menu.
- Click Customization.
- Click Guest and Observer Access
- Allow or restrict Guest Access as desired.
- Click Submit.
- You will see a confirmation message appear.
Users with a Guest role in your course will not see any course Tools and Content Areas unless they are made visible to Guests.
- Go to the Control Panel area.
- Select Customization.
- Click on the Tool Availability link.
- Select the Tools to make available to Guests in the "Visible to Guests” column.
Please Note:
Access to Guests is limited.
- Only a small subset of the Tools can be made available to Guests.
- Most often, you will want to select Announcements and Content Area.
- Guests cannot be given access to Discussion Boards, Blogs, or Journals.
Items on the course menu can be hidden or made visible to Guest users by following these steps for each link:
- Hover over the Course Menu link you want to make available.
- Click on the contextual menu (drop-down arrow).
- Select Permit Guests.
Without performing these steps, Guests can see content that appears within the browser page, but cannot access any documents attached from your Content Collection without providing login information.
- Within the My Content area of your Content Collection, click on the drop-down arrow next to the folder you want to make available to Guests.
- Choose Permissions.
- Click the Select Roles menu at the top of the page and select Institution Roles.
- Select Guest from the list of Institution Roles and click the right-facing arrow.
- Choose the permissions you wish to allow Guests (normally, you will select only "Read”).
- Click Submit.
