Please Note: Respondus Exam Author downloads and current license keys can be found in Blackboard under the Community tab within the specific community titled, Academic Community. On the left, within the course menu, it is located under Tech Tools and Resources > University Licensed Technology > Respondus 4.0 (Exam Author). License Keys expire on July 31st of each year and must be reset by each user.

What is Respondus Exam Author?

Respondus Exam Author is a useful tool for creating and managing exams that can be printed to paper or published directly to Blackboard. Using Respondus Exam Author you can import an exam created in MS Word (as well as Notepad or any .TXT, .RTF, or .DOC file), and then publish directly to your Blackboard course.

Respondus Exam Author features

  • Create exams and assessments offline
  • Support up to 15 question types (including calculated and algorithmic formats)
  • Import questions from MS Word including embedded images
  • Import or add tables, bulleted lists, font and enhanced formatting like bold and italics
  • Add images, audio, and video to assessments
  • Exam Wizard to create assessments
  • Spell Check (includes dictionaries for English, French, German, Spanish)
  • Equation Editor inserts mathematical and scientific symbols
  • Publish exams directly to an online course or ‘batch publish’ to multiple courses
  • Print exams directly from Respondus
  • Custom reports such as student scores, summary statistics, and answer distribution on exams
  • Archive exam projects to share with other instructors or departments as a ‘ready-to-use’ exam.
