How to Publish Soft Chalk Quizzes into the Grade Center

This documentation addresses how to integrate your Softchalk lesson with quizzes so that quiz scores from the Softchalk quiz will be automatically entered into Blackboard’s Grade Center. We will be using Softchalk’s ScoreCenter option which is integrated into Blackboard. The ScoreCenter functions as a fully enabled SCORM option for testing.

Step-by-Step Guide

How to publish soft chalk quizzes into the grade center

  1. Open your Softchalk Lesson in the Softchalk software.

  2. Go to File > Package Lesson.

  3. Choose the options as seen in the below dialog box.

  4. You will receive the following message.

    Please Note: Do not close the Softchalk software with your lesson. Minimize the screen.
  5. Go to the indicated folder to find the published ScoreCenter zipped file. Eg. DPA2013_scsc.zip.Documents library folder with the ScoreCenter zipped file selected
     
  6. Go to your Blackboard Course. In the Course Tools section, click the tool Softchalk Publish with ScoreCenter.

  7. The following screen will appear.

  8. Click Submit. You will receive your personal Blackboard Access code. Copy this code to Notepad or any other text-enabled (Word, WordPad, etc.) application. Eg. 1fc92355a3107a0f032fe65271465824675
  9. Now, go back to your Softchalk lesson, and click on File > Publish Lesson.

  10. The following screen will appear. Click on Accounts tab to create a new Blackboard connection account.

  11. Click the New button and choose Blackboard as your Account Type.  Click OK.

  12. Enter the following required items.
    1. Descriptive name: [Can be MyBlackBoard]
    2. The server address: Is https://blackboard.missouristate.edu/
    3. The Access Code is your personal Blackboard Access code you had received earlier. Eg. 1fc92355a3107a0f032fe65271465824675
  13. Click OK when finished.

  14. Your Blackboard Publish Account will now be seen.

  15. Now go to the Publish tab in this dialog box and click Connect for Softchalk to connect to your Blackboard account. All your courses will be seen on the right of the dialog box. Choose options as seen below and appropriate to assessment.

  16. Choose the course your Softchalk lesson will be published. Then choose the actual content folder the Softchalk lesson will be seen by the students.  Click Publish.

  17. You will receive the below message.

  18. Go into your Blackboard course to see the published Softchalk lesson.

  19. When the students click on the Softchalk lesson, they will first receive this message.

  20. Once they read the message and click Continue, they will be able to take the quiz.
  21. As they take the quiz they will receive feedback on their progress by clicking Check Answers.

  22. When the students have completed the quiz they will click Finish at the bottom of the screen. NOTE: If the students do not click the Finish button, their scores will not be sent to Blackboard Grade Center!

  23. The below message will be received by the students. They can then close this tab or window.

  24. The students can also click the score receipt to either print or receive an email of their score, and the score from this Softchalk lesson has now been entered into Blackboard’s grade center.
