Creating a banner in PowerPoint is easy. Simply follow the steps below to create a custom banner for your course (examples in Microsoft PowerPoint 2016, newer versions will be similar).

How to Create a Banner for Your Course in PowerPoint

  1. Open PowerPoint.
  2. Start a new presentation.
  3. Click on the Design tab and then click Slide Size. Select Custom Slide Size.
    Select Custom Slide size from the Design menu ribbon.

     
  4. On the Slide Size window, scroll down and choose Banner. Click OK.
    Select Banner for the slide size.

     
  5. PowerPoint will ask if you'd like to maximize the size of your content. Go ahead and select Maximize.
    Select Maximize for content.
     
  6. The default Banner dimensions are 8" by 1" wide. You should leave these dimensions set at the default values.
  7. In the Presentation screen, type the course name, add background colors or apply any Themes, and insert an image if desired..
  8. Save the banner onto your local computer as a GIF, JPEG, or PNG file format.
    1. Click the File button at the top left of the screen, then select Save As and then select where you'd like to save it.
      Click Save As from the File menu.
       
    2. Select .JPG, .GIF, or .PNG as the the file type.
      Choose the image extensiton that best meets your needs. .PNG is recommended.
       
    3. Click Save.
  9. Select Just This One when the Export Slide window appears.
    Export only one slide.
