How to Add Criteria to a Self or Peer Assessment Question

Self or Peer Assessments ensure students receive constructive feedback to enhance comprehension. To assist evaluators with evaluating peer submissions instructors can use a defined set of criteria. Follow the directions to add criterion to assessment questions.

Adding Criteria

  1. From the Assessment Canvas, click the gray chevron next to the question you want to add criteria to, and then click Criteria.
    Click the down arrow next to the question to access the contextual menu and select Criteria.
     
  2. Click Create Criteria.
    Click Create Criteria from the navigation menu.
     
  3. Enter the criteria that will be used by the evaluators in the text box.
  4. Enter the points for the question in the Points Possible field.
  5. Choose how you would like to allow points to be awarded and if you would like to allow feedback.

Adding word count criteria

  1. From the Assessment Canvas, click the gray chevron next to the question you want to add criteria to, and then click Criteria.

  2. From the Criteria Screen, click Word Count Criteria.
    Select Word Count Criteria from the top navigation menu.
     
  3. Enter any text you want to describe the criteria.
  4. Enter the Points Possible, the Recommended Word Count and the Allowed Variation numbers.

  5. Click Submit.

Adding default criteria

  1. From the Assessment Canvas, click the gray chevron next to the question you want to add criteria to, and then click Criteria.

  2. From the Criteria Screen, click Search for Criteria.
    Click the button Search for Criteria on the right side.
     
  3. Type a search term or just click Go for all the default criteria.

  4. Click View Details if you would like more information about a criteria and click the check box next to any criteria you would like to add.
    Select the desired criteria from the list.
     
  5. When you have selected all the criteria you want, click Submit.
