Assignment files that have been uploaded and converted for display can be annotated directly within the browser.
Please Note: Bb Annotate is supported on current versions of Firefox, Chrome, Edge and Safari.
Step-by-Step Guide
- Create an assignment.
Please Note: When you create an assignment, tell your students in the assignment instructions which file formats are supported, and encourage them to not put their name or any other personal information in the file to keep their privacy.
- Access the Grade Attempt from the Grade Center. Once a student has submitted a document you can grade it. The following are common accepted submission formats:
- Word (DOC, DOCX)
- PowerPoint (PPT, PPTX)
- Excel (XLS, XLSX)
- PDF (PDF)
- Use the annotations tools to provide customizable feedback to students.
Options for creating annotations on an Assignment: Drawing, Brush, Stamp, Image, Comments, Text, and Shapes.
- Drawing, Brush and Eraser: Draw freehand on the submission with various colors, thickness, and opacity. You can erase parts of drawing with the eraser or delete the annotation completely.
- Image or Stamp: Choose a preloaded stamp, create your own or add an image to the submission.
- Comments: Provide feedback using comments. Your comments will display in the panel next to the submission.
- Text: Add text directly on the submission. Text can be moved, edited, changed and formatted by selecting the font, size, alignment, and color of the text.
- Shapes: Choose a line, arrow, rectangle, ellipse, polygon and polyline. Each shape has its own settings to change color, width, opacity, and more.
- To Draw or Brush select the pencil icon from the Bb Annotate toolbar.
Your cursor will turn into a crosshair icon. Click and drag the cursor to draw on the document.
- To add comments, select the Comment icon from the Bb Annotate toolbar.
Click on a location in the submission text you would like to tag with a comment.
In the pop-up box on the right, add your comment and click Reply.
Alternatively, you can also select a section of text and click on the comment icon from the pop-up menu.
- To highlight a section of text, place your cursor over the selected text and drag until the entire selection is highlighted, then release your cursor. Select the Highlighter icon
From the Highlighter menu you can choose what color highlighter, opacity and style.
- To add Text to directly to the submission, click on the Text icon.
Click on the submission to add a text annotation. Type your text annotation in the pop-up box and make formatting changes as needed using the Text menu.
After grading and annotating an Assignment, you may want to download a PDF copy that includes the annotations.
- To do this, return to the Assignment attempt you wish to download. (Access the Grade Attempt)
- Locate the download icon in the Bb Annotate toolbar.
- The Annotated PDF will download to your computer.
Please Note: Students can also download the annotated PDF of their Assignment after it has been graded.
