Follow the directions below to manage a Discussion Board thread.
Step-by-Step Guide
When you delete a forum or thread, all content is permanently deleted. For a less permanent solution, you can make a forum unavailable.
When deleting graded discussion content, you determine if the Grade Center column and scores are also deleted.
Please Note: Deleting graded forums can be tricky. If you wish to delete both the forum and the associated grade column, the most reliable way is to change the forum to "non-graded" before deletion.
- Access the discussion board and access a forum or thread's contextual menu.
- Select Delete to permanently delete the forum or thread's content.
- Click OK in the pop-up window.
Discussion Board flagging is a way of marking a thread or post for later review; this is similar to setting a flag to follow-up on an email in Microsoft Outlook.
To Flag a Post in Tree View
- Select the thread or post you want to flag by selecting the check box next to it.
- Point to Message Actions, and the click Set Flag.
To Flag a Post in List View
- Select the thread or post you want to flag by selecting the check box next to it.
- Point to Thread Actions, and then click Set Flag.
Discussion Board tagging allows the instructor and students to search for keywords that have been tagged on a forum or specific post. You can tag via the Search screen or the collections screen.
In order to tag a post, Allow post tagging must be enabled in the Forum Settings . Tagging a post will identify it with a concept or topic (e.g. Organizational Learning) even if the author did not use that particular phrase in their posting.

- Search or Collect posts.
- On an individual post click Add by the Tags: line.
To tag several posts at once

- Check the boxes next to all the posts you wish to tag.
- Enter the Tag Text and click Add.

You can also add tags from existing terms. On an individual post, simply click Choose from Existing.
