Observer Overview

The Observer role in Blackboard allows a user to view a course as a student sees it, without having the option to interact on behalf of the student. Specialized academic advisors may have observer accounts created in order to assist students with keeping on top of their work. The observer role allows advisors to see assignments and the associated grades. They can see tasks and grades on tests, but not the test questions. Observers cannot view discussions, blogs, or journals.

Please Note: Most observer accounts require a secondary account, you will be provided this account when you are established as an observer. This will not be your normal user account.

NOTE: In this view, if you click Last System Access, it will sort your students by their last access date. This can be helpful in determining which students may need additional assistance.

Once you have chosen a student to observe, click on the Courses tab to see a list of courses that your student is enrolled in.

In each course, you will see a segment of the content your student has access to. You can see tasks and assignments. You can see grades on tests, but you will not see test questions, and you cannot view discussions, blogs, or journals.
