How to Remove Video Files from Blackboard

In order to not exceed our Blackboard storage limits and to ensure course performance is maintained at optimal levels, video files should not be uploaded to Blackboard and any previously added video files should be deleted from Blackboard. The Content Collection houses all files added or uploaded to a course, so the course files can become too large very quickly, especially when videos are uploaded to the course. This is especially true if course copies have been performed on the course or there have been multiple imported content packages. Course copies and imports often lead to duplicated and unnecessary files in the course Content Collection. The steps below show you how to clean up your course files and remove video files from Blackboard.

Step-by-Step Guide

How to Remove Video Files from Your Blackboard Courses

  1. Access the Content Collection for your course. There are two options to do so:
    1. Enter your course and scroll down to the Control Panel. Select Content Collection and click on your Course ID.

    2. Select the Content Collection tab at the top of your Blackboard home page. Click the drop-down arrow next to Course Content and select your Course ID.
Access the Content Collection from the Blackboard home page menu

  2. To help locate video files, click the Size column twice to sort from largest to smallest file size. Video files will usually be near the top of the list, but you may need to open folders to find all videos.

The link to this file in your course will be broken, so you will need to delete the file link from the course also, but you can re-share the video with your students after the file has been removed from Blackboard.
