Closed Captioning in Blackboard Collaborate Ultra

Follow the steps below to add Closed Captioning to your Blackboard Collaborate session:

How to Promote an Attendee to Closed Captioner

  1. Log in to Blackboard.
  2. Access Blackboard Collaborate Ultra from Course Tools.
  3. Click on the session you wish to join from the Blackboard Collaborate Ultra platform.
  4. From the Collaborate Session open the Collaborate Panel by clicking on the purple icon in the bottom right corner.
    Click on the Collaborate Session Control Panel.
     
  5. Click on the Attendees icon to see the list of session participants.
    Click on the Attendees tab from the Collaborate Control panel.
     
  6. Click the three dots (Attendee Control icon) next to the attendee and select Make captioner. Only moderators can assign an attendee as a captioner.
    Select Make catpioner from the options menu
     
  7. A notification banner will appear at the top of the session screen indicating you are now ready to provide captions for the session. Click on Let's get started.
    Click on Let's get started to begin captioning.
     
  8. A text box will appear at the bottom of the screen above the audio/video toolbar.
    A text box will appear at the bottom of the session screen for the captioner to begin typing.
     
  9. Begin typing closed captioning for the Collaborate session.
Please Note: More than one person can be assigned as a captioner. This will allow for closed captioning to be provided in multiple languages as needed.
